On February 29, 2024, at 09.00 a.m., the executives of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University (MUPY) led by Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, the Dean, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doungdaw Chantasart, the Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pakatip Ruenraroengsak, Head of the Centre of Molecular Targeting and Integrated Drug Development, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Arnatchai Maiuthed, Head of the Centre of Biopharmaceutical Science for Healthy Ageing provided a warm welcome to Dr. Laurent Fraisse, Research & Development Director, and Mr. Jean-Michel Piedagnel, Head of the South-East Asia Office from the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi), an international non-profit drug research and development organization.
This meeting aimed to discuss potential collaboration on drug development between the two institutes. Then, DNDi's delegates had an opportunity to visit the Faculty of Pharmacy's research centers including (1) Centre of Molecular Targeting and Integrated Drug Development, and (2) Centre of Biopharmaceutical Science for Healthy Ageing.
After that, they visited the Faculty of Science's Laboratory Animal Unit and met Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pasit Pakawatpanurut, the Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation of the Faculty of Science, who provided the DNDi's delegates with a warm welcome and brought them to explore the possibility of the Laboratory Animal Unit to support the drug research and development. These research centers and facilities under Mahidol University have been a part of MU-Drug Discovery & Development Platform which has been also a collaboration between the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Science under the Reinventing University Project.
